Experience Points are necessary for Pokemon to gain levels. Gaining levels is how your Pokemon become stronger and gain new moves. Experience needed to gain a level is 3 times your current level. Levels max out at level 100.
Note: The movepools from Pokemon HG/SS are the basis for what moves your Pokemon are able to learn as they grow.
Happiness
Happiness is exactly what it says. Its the measurement of how much your Pokemon actually likes being with you. The higher the number, the happier the Pokemon is with you. Happiness is needed for several things. But the two biggest things that cater to Happiness are evolution and Obedience. Pokemon whose evolutions require Happiness to evolve will do so when it has a happiness value of 175 or higher and gains a level. The happiness values max out at 300. Happiness can also fall below 0 (lowest being -100). A Pokemon with a negative number becomes more likely to disobey orders.
Happiness IncreasesWinning Contest Rounds/Battles: +5
Feeding Pokemon: +10
Giving massages: Base +15 (see below)
Healing Status Conditions: +3
Gaining a Level: +10
Happiness DecreasesLetting the Pokemon Faint: -5
Not feeding the Pokemon at least once a day: -10
Giving it bitter herbs:
Heal Powder/Energy Powder: -5
Energy Root: -10
Revival Herb: -15
These values must be added to your Pokemon's Happiness yourself. But they will be monitored by staff occasionally so do not fall victim to temptation of cheating.MassagesPokemon Massages are the act of giving your Pokemon a relaxing rub down. This is a very good way to increase your Pokemon's happiness. To do this you will need to role-play giving your Pokemon a massage (don't get carried away here). All massages have a base happiness increase which is then added onto depending on your character class and the cologne scents used. Cologne Scents can be purchased in a shop in a specific town (the town shop will list them specifically). Or you can spend money to have someone else do it for you.
Disobedience: There are several ways for a Pokemon to become Disobedient. All of them cater to Happiness somehow. The first is a Pokemon you captured yourself has a Happiness value of -1 or lower. The other way is if you are a trainer, receive a Pokemon in a trade and do not have at least one badge by the time the Pokemon has reached a certain level. For non-trainers, Pokemon you receive in trades will become disobedient if by level 11 its happiness value is less than 20.
Disobedient Pokemon in Battle: Placing a disobedient Pokemon in battle has extremely high chance of working against you. When a Pokemon has become disobedient there is a chance that the Pokemon will ignore the order completely and do one of four things: Use another one of its moves instead, do nothing, fall asleep (for 3-5 turns), attack you instead. To determine this a chance post will be put up by the person overseeing your battle. Chance post means that two random numbers will be displayed by the overseer's post. The first will be a random number generated between 1-100 and the second a number between 1-4. If the first number is 65 or lower, the Pokemon is ruled disobedient and the 2nd number is considered. Otherwise the turn continues as normal.
